The Why Store w/ Stackin' Eights- Live at The Astra The Why Store was formed in the late 1980s in Muncie, Indiana. In 1993, the band independently recorded Welcome to the Why Store . One year later the band recorded Inside the Why Store . Both albums were locally successful, and The Why Store began getting attention from record labels. In 1995, The Why Store signed to MCA’s subsidiary Way Cool Music for their first major-label effort, a self-titled LP, which was released in 1996. Their major label debut on MCA Records spawned several hits. The first single, “Lack Of Water”, was a #1 hit on Triple-A Radio; the band performed “Surround Me” on Late Night with Conan O’ Brien and saw their video for “Father” receive rotation on MTV2 and VH1. The Why Store was a Top 20 album for 1996 and went on to sell 200,000 copies. The Why Store split up in 2000 citing creative differences, though each member has continued onto different projects, most notably Shaffer who has recorded several solo disks as well as recording with his first post-Why Store band, Shaffer Street. In 2007, Shaffer reincarnated The Why Store with an exciting new album called VIM. Produced by Rusty Anderson, Paul McCartney’s long time guitarist, VIM showcases Chris’s passionate songwriting and refreshingly edgy vocal ability. “It was a magical experience, definitely the best thing I’ve ever done,” says Shaffer. In 2016, The Why Store released a Live album Live at the Slippery Noodle featuring “Everybody” and SIX previously unreleased tracks available at shows, their website, Spotify or iTunes . Once again … The Why Store is officially, open for business… Stackin’ Eights Band - Reforged with Southern Punch and Outlaw Backbone. Our battle-hardened, shot-caller, brings the truth turned up loud with a poetic soul! With a 3 guitar-assault and iron attitude, in equal parts of grit and grind, Stackin’ Eights stands with the groove, locked-in with an attitude of equal measure! Our sound is raw, tight, and built for live rooms that want energy, musicianship, and songs that connect! Built loud, played hard, and meant to be felt! Jasper in June Photography Workshop 2026 | Becker's Chalets

Jasper in June Photography Workshop 2026 | Becker's Chalets

Photography Cultural Experiences
Historically, the first couple weeks of June is a changing of the seasons in the mountain parks. The last of the winter ice has melted off the lakes, revealing pristine lakes with jaw-dropping reflections. Wildlife is in abundance with elk, moose, & bear sightings common, including newborn offspring. Waterfalls are at their highest flow for the season with the mountain runoff, and alpine wildflowers start to bloom. Jasper in June is one of the best locations and months for shooting in the Rockies, and it falls just before the massive Summer crowds start to appear. The landscape in Jasper after the 2024 wildfires is a powerful blend of beauty and devastation - raw, dramatic, and moving. Charred trees stand like sculptures against vibrant new growth, creating striking contrasts that offer endless opportunities for abstract compositions and creative storytelling. The textures, tones, and layers left behind by the fire reveal a different kind of wilderness: hauntingly beautiful, resilient, and evolving. It's a place where photographers can capture not just scenic grandeur, but the emotional weight of a landscape in transition, full of artistic potential. During this 5 day/4 night workshop you will learn how to compose, shoot and deliver top-notch images that you will be proud of. The workshop is limited to just 7 participants to ensure everyone receives hands-on guidance from the workshop instructors. The instructor will guide you through their processes, from preparation to execution in the field. Master concepts such as focus stacking, long exposure through the proper use of neutral density filters, bracketing, metering a scene correctly, and much more! Cost: $1980 + GST & Fees - Double Occupancy, 2 Bedroom Cabins $2500 + GST & Fees - Single Occupancy Cabin 50% Non Refundable Deposit is required to secure your spot We’ll explore a diverse range of stunning locations throughout Jasper National Park - hand-picked by your instructor, who brings years of experience photographing in the area. To make the most of the best light, our shoots will be scheduled around golden hours at sunrise and sunset. However, we will adjust the timing the best utilize the weather windows and conditions. In June, sunsets occur just after 10 p.m., with lingering light until nearly midnight, and sunrise is around 5:30 a.m. Blue hours are stunning in the Rockies, and our shoots may extend into he night when the stars come out. The days are very long in Northern Alberta, and twilight remains through most of the night, but it is still possible to view the moon and stars. So prepare to have some short nights at your hotel - but don't worry, you’ll have downtime during the day to rest and recharge between shoots. Our workshop begins with a welcome and orientation at Becker’s Chalets on the afternoon of Day 1. About a month before the workshop, participants will receive a brief questionnaire to help tailor instruction to individual goals and skill levels. This experience is open to all photographers - from beginners wanting to build confidence to advanced shooters refining specific techniques. Instruction will be customized to your needs. Wildlife photography will be part of the workshop if opportunities arise to observe animals safely and respectfully. Your instructor will guide you through ethical practices, including Parks Canada’s regulations and how to ensure wildlife remains undisturbed. Monika knows the Jasper/Banff area like the back of her hand. She is a complete pro, with the required permits and insurance. I was impressed with how ethical Monika is in terms of interactions with animals, at the same time ensuring everyone in the group gets the shot without putting any animal or human in danger. Monika engages with everyone. For shy photographers, she doesn’t wait to be asked for help which I really appreciate. She not only helps with technical / camera settings but really focuses on composition. Encourages the development of soft skills like patience. Plus she’s really fun! You will definitely have a lot of laughs as well as great pictures to look back on." - Michelle Jones "[Monika] found a way to capture every important moment we would hope for with our camera. Their knowledge of Jasper locations for Amazing captured of so many Wonderful moments. I would like to thank you guys for doing such a great job for us! You both are such talented photographers & knowledge teaching how to use our camera gave me the Best pics I've ever taken. I was thrilled with results of my Jasper in June Experience & with the time spent in Jasper during weekdays for less crowds." - Charlene Tondu “I attended the Jasper in June photography retreat as a way of reigniting my interest in photography. The workshop was an excellent mix of technical information and practical ways to implement the skills. [Monika's] knowledge of the area was key in making sure we had a good balance of opportunities to photograph landscapes and wildlife. We were given opportunities to ask questions and get feedback on our images. The small group setting was ideal for ensuring each of us got what we needed from the retreat. I would definitely recommend the experience!” - Jen Russill Terms & Conditions: By registering for this event you agree that you have read and understand the following.
